Curt Walters – Recipient of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum’s 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award
Mark your calendars now for January 18th, 2014 from 6-9 p.m. when the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg, AZ will celebrate the achievements Curt Walters has made during his lifelong journey through the Western art world. Curt has been chosen as the 2014 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Museum. The event will be hosted in the Museum’s Cultural Crossroads Learning Center where events of the night will include a live art auction.
Curt’s work Sun Shadow Wind, a massive 36” x 48”, is in the permanent collection at DCWM and will be a featured exhibit of the night. This painting won the Best of Show and First Place Oil Painting Awards at the 2011 West Select Show and Sale at the Phoenix Art Museum.
Each year, Curt’s artwork can be seen at many of America’s top Western Art shows, the most prominent of them being the Prix de West exhibition at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, the Masters of the American West show in Los Angeles, and Quest for the West, hosted by the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis. Walters has received great acclaim at these exhibitions, bringing home 21 major awards over the past two decades. Among the highlights of his career, Walters has had the honor of being awarded with retrospective shows; one at Eiteljorg Museum in 2009 and the other in Tulsa at the Gilcrease Museum in 2011.
While his travels have taken him all over America, Canada, and Mexico, Curt’s overseas journeys have exposed him to some of the world’s most exotic locations. His most popular foreign endeavors embody the bright, spirited vibrancy of Bali, Indonesia and the venerable grace of Italy. His most recent travels have led his palette from the Forbes’ Chateau de Balleroy in Normandy, France, to the great capitals of the Habsburg empire; Prague in the Czech Republic, Vienna, Austria, and the magnetic radiance of Budapest. Curt’s adventures have led him even as far as the biblical sights of Jordan in the Middle East.
